Wha, Wha Wentz Whipped by Jags

I have to say in all honesty, I never was on the Wentz Wagon.  There was just something about him that didn't sit right with me. When I heard him speak, for some reason my B.S. detector would go off. I go back a few years ago when he got injured and was replaced by Foles. What seemed like the Birds not having receivers to throw to, Foles was finding receivers all around the field.

He became a turnover/sack machine. This was especially true his last two years in Philly. In 2019 and 2020, he had 26 fumbles and 22 interceptions.  Remember, he only played in 12 games in 2020. After the 2020 season, his true colors really began to show. There were even grumblings that some players accused Wentz of being "selfish and egotistical."  Whether these rumors were true or not, whenever he got in front of a microphone, I just didn't trust what I was hearing.

According to the report, more than half a dozen anonymous Eagles players and other sources close to the team accused Wentz of playing "favorites" and failing "to take accountability" while labeling Nick Foles as "universally loved."

The Philly Voice, 2020

Once he was benched during the Packers game. The Birds were trailing 20-3 early in the second half when Pederson pulled the trigger and Hurts began his career as the starting QB. By that stage of his career, Wentz had gone 17-20-1 since his knee injury ended his 2017 season.  You can see after that what a selfish player he was. After signing a huge contract, he started to complain about wanting to be traded. You know when the chips are down, you often see peoples' true colors.  After the trade had been completed, he made his first press appearance as a Colt. During the Q & A when asked about wanting out of Philly, he responded, "Green Bay [after being benched] was probably the moment when I realized 'this may not be it'... I had no idea if I was going to start, be on the bench, all of those things go through your mind."

Rather than coming back the following year and showing he was ready to earn the starter's job back, he threw a temper tantrum. He continued this tantrum until he got what he wanted. To me, I was happy to see him go. I felt like a part of him never got over Foles taking the Eagles to a Super Bowl win. Also, after a horrible performance through 11 1/2 games, it was time to get him out of the game. His ego couldn't take it and he would do anything to sabotage the situation.

Once he was gone, the only well wishes I had for him was that he played enough games to get the Eagles that extra first-round pick. Fortunately, he fulfilled my wish and we'll get that extra pick (16th overall).

With the move to the Colts, it was now his chance to show who he was as a top-quality quarterback. The Colts started the season slow with a 1-4 record. By week 16, they had moved to 9-6 and had a shot to make the playoffs. Week 15, they faced the Patriots, who coming off their bye week, had a 7 game winning streak. Sadly, the Pats lost 27-17. But this was one game that I really watched Wentz. Prior to that, the Colts entered the realm of my feelings towards the Cowboys and Chiefs. Sadly to say, I harbor hard feelings for a very long time. My feelings towards the Cowboys need no explanation. Chiefs? I'll just say, Andy Reid. Colts? Carson Wentz.

What I noticed during the Colts-Pats game was what made the Colts successful was the running of Jonathan Taylor. As soon as they took it out of Taylor's hands and had Wentz more involved in the game other than handing it off, he was a danger of blowing the game. Don't believe me? If you look at the Colts' first touchdown of the game, they went 8 plays for 78 yards. Jonathan Taylor was involved in 7 of those 8 plays.

The Colts' next touchdown came from a blocked punt (14-0). The Colts then went 14 plays for 58 yards and a field goal (17-0). Of those 14 plays, 8 went to Taylor. In the 3rd quarter, after an interception, Wentz passed to J. Doyle for no gain, then threw an incomplete pass, was sacked for a loss of 8 yards. The Colts then kicked a field goal (20-0).

In their next series, a similar pattern continued with Wentz throwing incomplete passes and Taylor running the ball. This time they missed the field goal attempt. The Pats followed this up with a 9 play with 61 yards, touchdown drive (20-7). Wentz came back in after the touchdown by the Pats and on the third play, he threw a pick. The Pats went on a 12 play drive and kicked a field goal (20-10).

The Colts get the ball back and go on an 8 play, 19-yard series, and punt. Out of those 8 plays, 6 went to Taylor. Pats get it back and go on a 7 play drive for 82 yards and a touchdown (20-17). When the Colts get the ball back, on the second play, Taylor breaks through the line and goes for 67 yards to seal the game (27-17).

Who won the game for the Colts? It certainly wasn't Wentz. If it wasn't for Taylor running the ball, I'm not sure the results would have been the same. Wentz's response to his performance that night? "They have a good secondary – their defense and their scheme is really good," Wentz said after the game. "They're going to stack the box, they have good cover guys back there as well, which can kind of make it confusing to some extent. But I just thought we misfired on a few. I definitely want some throws back, no doubt about that. We had some chances there; we just didn't hit them."

How about we just say, Wentz, you aren't that good of a quarterback ( 5/12 - 57 yards). Therefore, they had to take the ball out of your hands.

As they entered the final game of the season against the lowly Jags, all they needed was a win to get into the playoffs. It all started with selfish Wentz, who refused to get vaccinated and missed a week of practice. Upon his return, he threw for 148 yards and missed numerous passes against the Raiders (Week 17). He also was responsible for both of the Colts' turnovers, was sacked 6 times, and completed 58.6 percent of his passes in the loss against the Jags. Wentz's reaction? "It's hard to put your finger on it right now," Wentz said when asked to diagnose his disappointing finish to the season. "Sluggish, not the dynamic explosive offense we always thought we were. ... I've got to protect the ball. I've got to do a better job. So there's a lot that could be said and a lot of things to digest right now. But it's a frustrating, kinda crappy feeling right now."

Hard to put your finger on it right now? Here, let me help. YOU SUCK AS A QUARTERBACK!!!!
