Ok, today we begin another year of hope and dreams. What will this season bring? Can I see a division title? Making it to the NFC championship? Super Bowl? A part of me feels that this is the best-constructed team on both sides of the ball in years, if not all time.
Where do I worry the most? First, it starts with my concern with Jalen Hurts. I don't expect him to be the next Tom Brady. I would like to see him be a steady quarterback, who can see the whole field and be able to hit his receivers. That will mean he'll have to look off a receiver and find an open one. He doesn't need to run crazy but not be afraid to run when there seems like an open field ahead.
I think the offensive line is the best in the NFL including the backups. I believe they'll open up holes for the running game and protect Hurts in the pocket. With the receivers he had now, Hurts should have a lot of options to go to. I was happy to see they got rid of a lot of dead weight (Reagor and Arcega-Whiteside). Keeping them around another year would only lead to another reminder of two wasted draft picks. A combination of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith puts a little bit of fear in opposing defenses.
The defense, which has had many holes over the years, looks really solid this year. With the pick of Jordan Davis, we now have a beast on the d-line, which could see a revival of the entire line. Picking up James Bradberry and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson solidifies a secondary that was a real weak spot. And finally, yes finally, the Eagles addressed the linebacker position. Signing Kyzir White is just coming into his own as a linebacker. Nakobe Dean, even though he's just a rookie, could be the real deal.
So as the new year begins, I'm really excited to see what they produce. And so here is my week-by-week prediction with one caveat, after this first game today, I may come back and revise this prediction:
